Tiny Rustic Cabin

The writing prompt today from the NaPoWriMo blog was to write a sea shanty. Using the writing prompt is not required, but is offered as means of inspiration; needlesstosay I would have failed miserably at writing a sailor's song, but the prompt did bring to mind a poem I had started to write several years ago after vacationing solo at Cape Hatteras; a gift to myself for my 50th birthday. I no longer write rhyme poetry, so finishing it was more an atrocity than a challenge..but here it is...

A tiny rustic cabin, a few feet from the shore
Became my prized abode, a couple nights or more
I needed very little, no fancy place to stay
A prayer, a song, a memory; His love to greet my day

I heard the ocean roaring, the waves were raging high
I marveled how our God could know, just where to end the sky
I walked along the shoreline, felt the wind upon my face
Remembering His mercies, His forgiveness and His Grace.

I thought about the things I have, why did I need them so
When He provides my everything, comfort when I;m low
Salvation, joy and peace of mind, rejoicing in my heart
Eternal life, heavenly guests, His promise from the start.

I loved that tiny cabin, its walls that smelled of pine
A place where God softly spoke and offered these as mine
Abundant love sent from above, ever deep and ever wide
A Palace in the heavens, Jesus Christ my constant guide.
